Ephedra Lawsuit Information

There have been a surge in Ephedra lawsuits in America following the banning of a substance called Ephedra. Ephedra is a herbal form of the more widely known Ephedrine. This drug was sold across the counter and was used primarily in weight loss products. Following the ban, which happened in April 2005 it is estimated that over one hundred Ephedra lawsuits have been filed, with more in the pipeline. Ephedra was also known as Ma Huang, Metabolife, Xenadrine, Morman Tea or Desert Tea, all products have since been banned by the US government.

Whether you are looking for information about specific Ephedra lawsuits or hoping to establish whether you have grounds to launch your own Ephedra lawsuit, we hope that you find the information contained on this page useful. Our objective is to answer the most common questions relating to Ephedra lawsuits.

The first thing you should do is to establish whether you have a case. To have a case, you will have at some point taken the banned drug Ephedra and been diagnosed with either a heart attack or stroke. It is possible for Ephedra lawsuits to be filed on behalf of a loved one.

If you feel that you have been affected by this banned drug, you will then need to seek a specialist Ephedra lawyer. They will talk to you about your case, describe the legalities of the case and explain to you whether you indeed have a case.  Please make sure that you are completely honest during this initial qualification process, as what you say during this consultation may well be part of your evidence if your Ephedra lawsuit gets to trial.

One of the first Ephedra lawsuits to go to court was in the case of Rhea McAllister. The trial which was held in Houston heard how McAllister had suffered a stroke, this was alleged to be the result of taking a diet supplement product which contained Ephedra. The jury awarded in favour of Rhea McAllister and agreed on total damages and punitive damages of $7.4 million.

Over the next twelve months, we’re expecting more Ephedra lawsuits to be heard in court.
